Matthew Brown
Realism · Owner / Tattoo Artist
Hey, my name is Matthew Brown and I am the proud owner of, and a resident artist at Black Rose Collective in Londonderry, NH.
I’ve been tattooing for over 18 years, but 2011 was when I really took the leap and dove in, head first.
I’ve offered various styles throughout my career, but my focus has since shifted to Black & Grey Realism, including portraits, floral designs, landscapes, animals, sculptures, and the occasional custom lettering. If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for a ladyface/skull/rose combo.
Throughout the years, I’ve had the privilege of traveling across the country, honing my craft, and have even been fortunate enough to earn some awards along the way.
With a hunger to gain knowledge, experience and growth, I always strive to stay focused and execute this art form to the best of my abilities.
My goal is to provide a fun, respectful, and collaborative environment for my clients, with a focus on producing a piece of art they can wear proudly for a lifetime.
FAQ
Before you book.
From the booking page. If the two ever differ, go by the booking page.
Read this before you submit
Matt uses your submission to choose and design your piece, so be specific. He loves artistic freedom, but capturing your vision comes first. List any must-haves — if you are vague, Matt won’t know what you have in mind.
No must-haves, and you truly want to give him artistic freedom? That’s fine too. Say so in your submission and keep an open mind.
- Have a theme? List the things in it. “Ocean” could mean lighthouses and ships, or seahorses and shells.
- Want flowers or birds? Say which kind.
- Give the exact spot, like left inner forearm or right upper outer bicep.
- Only pick “Ongoing Project” for your next session of a project you already started with Matt.
No color, cover-ups, or touch-ups of other artists’ work
Matt only does black and grey, on blank skin. He does not do color work, cover-ups, or touch-ups of another artist’s tattoo.
How far out he books, and when you’ll hear back
Matt usually books 6–7 months out. If your submission is accepted, you can book only in the month that is open at that time. If you can’t book that month, the submission is turned down and you’ll need to send it again later.
It can take several weeks to hear back — every submission gets read and answered. No word after 4 weeks? Check in through Porter chat: open your original submission and tap “Start chat.”
Prices and session estimates
Matt books one tattoo a day, so every appointment is a full-day session. You may not need the whole day — it depends on the design, or how much is left of an ongoing project.
Price per session:
- Under 4 hours: $1,400 (the minimum)
- 4–7 hours: $2,000
- Over 7 hours: $2,400
These are estimates, not set numbers. The number of sessions depends on size, detail, how long you can sit, and how many design changes you ask for.
Estimated sessions:
- Full sleeve: 4–6
- Half sleeve: 3–5
- Upper outer arm: 1–3
- Upper inner arm: 1–2
- Lower outer arm: 1–2
- Lower inner arm: 1–2
- Full leg sleeve: 6–10
- Half leg sleeve: 4–6
- Half back: 3–5
- Full back: 7–10
Deposits and cancellations
A $200 deposit is due at booking to hold your appointment. Deposits are non-refundable.
- To keep your deposit when you reschedule or cancel, give at least 48 hours’ notice.
- You get 1 reschedule per deposit. More than that needs a new deposit.
- Cancel at the last minute, or less than 48 hours before your appointment, and you lose the deposit. You’ll need a new deposit to reschedule.
How the consult works
If your submission is being considered, you’ll have a virtual consult with Matt’s assistant, Halie, through Porter chat. You’ll get an estimated number of sessions.
If your project is accepted, Halie works with you on every detail Matt needs to create your custom design. You meet Matt the morning of your appointment. He shows you the design, and there’s time for changes if you need them.
